Elizabeth Road’s First Produce Show Blooms with Neighbourly Pride

Published by Adam Styler on

Elizabeth Road woke up to a proper community celebration this weekend when neighbours staged their first-ever produce show. It was a bright, informal morning of homegrown veg, cheerful flowers, and children’s creations — all organised by residents through the Local resident’s group and run entirely by the street itself.

Judges From Moseley in Bloom

Two familiar faces from Moseley in Bloom, Jenny Brewer and Sabreena Mahroof, were invited along to judge the entries. They spent the morning moving between tables, admiring the displays and chatting with some local residents and the other judges.

What Caught Our Eye

The entries were a real mix of pride and personality. On the tables you could see:

  • Homegrown vegetables and herbs that showed off patient tending and good soil.
  • Bright floral arrangements, including some beautiful roses that stopped people in their tracks.
  • Children’s entries — simple, joyful and full of imagination.
  • Neighbour-made displays that told little stories about the people who live on the road.

There was no stiff formality — just neighbours celebrating what they’ve grown and made together.

Marking the Start of a New Tradition

Under a green canopy the street gathered for a small ribbon-cutting moment with Councillors Izzy and Philip Mills having the pleasure of cutting the ribbon. It felt like the start of something that could become a lovely annual tradition for Elizabeth Road.

Prizes, Photos and Plenty of Smiles

Prizes were handed out by Councillors Izzy Knowles and Philip Mills, and the winners posed for photos with proud neighbours looking on. The mood was relaxed and genuinely pleased — the kind of morning that leaves people talking about the next idea, the next patch to plant, or the next time the street will come together.

Why This Matters to Moseley

Events like this are small in scale but big in heart. They:

  • Bring neighbours together in a practical, joyful way.
  • Encourage people to grow, share and learn from one another.
  • Give children a chance to join in and feel proud of what they make.
  • Build confidence in organising grassroots activities that belong to the street.

Elizabeth Road’s produce show was a reminder that community spirit is grown, not given — and that a few pots, a patch of soil and a good idea can do a lot. We are certainly looking forward to seeing what next year may bring!
