Open Gardens 2024

Our Open Gardens event will be on Sunday 30th June 2024 from 11am to 5pm

18 gardens will be open across the Moseley area, including six that are new to Open Gardens, taking part for the very first time.

Tickets

Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 22nd May at Moseley Exchange and via our online shop. The ticket consists of a wristband which gives you access to all 18 gardens and unlimited travel on our free bus service. You will also get a 12-page garden guide booklet, containing descriptions of all the gardens, a detailed map, and the timetable for the bus.

You can also buy tickets at the Moseley Farmers Market on Saturday 25th May and Saturday 29th June.

Early-bird tickets are £8.50 and can be purchased up until Sunday 9th June. The price then becomes £10 from Monday 10th June.

On the day, Sunday 30th June, you can buy tickets at the following five gardens:

  • 157 Moor Green Lane, B13 8NT
  • 65 Chantry Road, B13 8DN
  • 15 Ascot Road, B13 9EN (mobility-friendly)
  • 113 Oxford Road, B13 9SG (mobility-friendly)

If you have not bought your tickets in advance then please go to one of these gardens first. These are also the pick-up points for tickets bought online – please go the specific garden that you selected when purchasing, as your named order will be there for collection.

Pay by cash, card and QR on smartphone

You can buy with cash or by card directly on your smartphone by scanning a QR code. The QR payment will also accept ApplePay and GooglePay if you have set this up on your phone. These methods of payment can be used at every garden selling tickets and refreshments, and for the Prize Draw.

It is very straightforward to pay by card using your smartphone and the QR code provided at every selling point. Just scan the code which will take you immediately to a SumUp page showing a customised description of what you are buying and the garden address. Enter the amount you need to pay, enter your credit card details and click ‘pay’. Then show the confirmation screen to the volunteer to prove that it worked. These instructions are repeated on every QR sheet at each place where a payment is needed. You can even have a practice now by scanning the code below:

You can optionally download the SumUp Pay Consumer App (google/android or apple/iOs) and pre-save your credit card ready for use later.

If you do not have a smartphone or are not confident about entering your credit card details then please bring plenty of cash with you.

Mobility-friendly gardens

Many of the gardens have patios and flat areas which give a good view of the rest of the garden and allow someone in a wheelchair, or who has restricted mobility, to enjoy the garden. These are indicated with a yellow ‘M’ symbol in the garden guide and, whilst this is not a strictly scientific method, we are sharing the information to help you plan your visits.

Refreshments

As you wander around the gardens you will be able to enjoy refreshments, music and arts at different venues. Three gardens will have a Prosecco bar also selling samosas and soft drinks. Two gardens will be selling tea, coffee and our famous home-baked cakes and biscuits.

Artists will be creating/drawing/painting live in several gardens, and we also have musicians in two other gardens.

Free bus

We are very pleased to again have the support of Andrew May and his bus, an exclusive service which comes free as part of your ticket. The bus will run an hourly circuit covering all open garden locations, with stops either directly by the garden or at most only a few minutes walk away. The service will run all day, starting from Billesley Lane Allotments at 11am, on the hour every hour, with the last circuit starting at 4pm. The back cover of your garden guide has full details of the timetable.

Prize draw

We’ll be running a prize draw and have a fabulous list of prizes donated by local and city-centre businesses. Roving sellers will be visiting all the gardens throughout the day.
