Trees Please Vacancy!
We have a volunteer vacancy available for anyone interested in trees! Our “Trees Please” programme was formed as a direct result of the tornado that decimated Moseley back in July 2005 and looks to replace the many trees that were destroyed and add some more.
During the past 5 years, we have planted 157 trees on the streets of Moseley which has been recognised both locally and nationally. Read the rest of this entry »
Meteoric Makeover – Spring Spectacular
Well Autumn is upon us but now is the time to plan ahead for the spring displays! With the sucess of the Meteoric Makeover, Mosley in Bloom has decided to build upon this success even further by providing a display of dazzling colour for spring 2010!
Work will begin this weekend (Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October) at the former Bristol Street Motors site. If you are interested in taking part in the award winning project, contact Adam Styler – Volunteer Coordinator on 07961 434869.
Moseley in Bloom wins Gold!
It was with some trepidation that five of us from Moseley in Bloom travelled to this year’s award ceremony in Pershore on 3rd September.
Moseley in Bloom participates in the Urban Community category in the Heart of England region, which includes Staffordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the West Midlands. There are 13 different categories, ranging from large city to small village and entries are assessed against a rigorous set of criteria, under the headings of Horticultural Achievement (50%), Environmental Responsibility (25%) and Community Participation (25%). Meteoric Makeover starts to Materialise…
The Meteoric Makeover, organised by Moseley in Bloom, completed its first phase of the project this weekend (15th, 16th & 17th May) by ensuring that the beds outside the perimeter are fit for the foliage and flowers to flourish in the summer.
Volunteers appeared in their abundance at the Bristol Street Motor’s site on St Mary’s Row on both Saturday and Sunday to ensure that the project got off to a good start. We also had volunteers on Friday to hand to help dig through and load compost which Four Season Nursery donated – ready for use over the weekend. Meteoric Makeover Volunteers Appeal – 16th & 17th May
While a planning application for this former car showroom site is currently under consideration, any future development is uncertain until planning permission is granted. It may therefore be some time before any work starts at this site. Having already laid empty for over a year, the grass and weeds have grown and the frontage now sports a look which is at best forlorn and at worst an eyesore. And that look is ‘so last season’.
Fortunately the site developers (Exmax Moseley) agree, and have given permission for the raised bed and perimeter fencing to be planted up with a dense tropical screen of green foliage and summer flowering annuals and climbers. Read the rest of this entry »
